WHAT'S HAPPENING

From Dan Colwell, Administrative Council Chair

I am excited to tell you that after much thought, conversation, information gathering and prayer, your Administrative Council voted on August 24 in favor of making the shift to 1 traditional and 2 contemporary worship services as of January 9, 2011. Contemporary worship will be at 9 & 11:11 a.m. with Traditional Worship at 10am. Children will have Sunday School at 9 & 11:11a.m. with Adventure Bay Kids’ Worship at 10a.m.; Students and Adults will have Sunday school at 9, 10 and 11:11a.m.

You will be hearing and seeing much more about the change in the coming months as we get ready to make this transition a successful one. As we look forward to celebrating our 15th Anniversary on September 12th, we can also look forward to an exciting new year for the Providence church family as we continue to reach out to those in our community who are seeking Him.

I thank all of you for your input, support, enthusiasm and passion for Christ as we continue in God’s ministry through Providence UMC. Please contact me or any member of Administrative Council if you have any questions.

In His Service,
Dan Colwell

Welcome New Members!

Providence UMC welcomes Travis Hooker & Christy Thompson; Lisa Freeman, Andrew Freeman;
Josh & Noelle Oates, Kirsten, Denver and Ashlyn Oates.
If you are thinking about joining the church family, please see Warren or email DeDe at dblackston@provumc.com

Celebration Sunday

Plan to be here for a day of worship, praise and celebration as we give thanks for 15 years in His ministry through Providence UMC.
The children’s choirs will sing at 10 & 11:11 a.m., we’ll have Faith Legacy blessings for families in our church who have taken the first session of classes, and the UMC Worship & Arts Camp teens will share special music. Stay after the 11:11 a.m. service for a picnic; you pick up a pan this Sunday and bring it back on the 12th with a side dish or dessert and we’ll do the rest. There will be games for the family, fun for the kids and music for all.

Missions Sunday

Check out the tables in the lobby on September 19 to see how you can serve in our community or in Atlanta. There are projects
for all ages, so each member of your family can find their place to give to those in need.

Faith Legacy is a DVD based curriculum led by Warren and Camilla to help families grow spiritually in their homes. Parents meet for three 1-1 ½ sessions with other parents who have kids the same age. At the completion of each session, children receive a blessing and a blessing object in worship. Watch for more information over the summer and go to www.kidskountpublishing.com to read about it.

Contact Leslie at llunsford@provumc.com for info or to sign up.

10a.m. Sunday School for Kids
This year’s curriculum will be all about how kids can change the world with “David the Boy,” “Feeding the 5,000” and “In the Manger” for lessons through the end of the calendar year. The different workshops are: Whales’ Tales (Storytelling), Seaside Studio (Art), Fish.net (Computers), Fish Bowl (Games), Star Fish (Drama), Fish & Clips (Movies) and Lighthouse Lab (Science). For parents of infants-toddlers, the rooms are The Hatchery, Toddlers by the Sea and Fins & Grins. During each four-week unit the kids will attend four different workshops then switch to the other four workshops the next month.

10:00 a.m. If you have a infant-5th grade child, or if your children are grown and out of the house, there’s a place for you!
