Prayer Shawl Ministry

Cradled in hope… Kept in joy… Graced in peace… Wrapped in love…

What is a Prayer Shawl Ministry?
Needlework and prayer are combined to make beautiful prayer shawls for those in great need. Prayer shawls provide love, care, warmth, comfort, encouragement and hope for the people who receive them.
As we create the prayer shawls we find ourselves growing closer to God and increasing the fruits of the Spirit. Prayer shawls create spiritual experiences to create, to give and to receive. All are welcome to join this group of ladies that meets Mondays 6-7pm in the Prayer Room by the back doors. Questions? Pat Johnson

How Do You Get a Prayer Shawl?
If you or someone you know is dealing with illness, grief, or sorrow and could use the comfort of a prayer shawl, please contact the church office at 770-719-8800 or email Pat Johnson and we will get one to you. Providence started this ministry out of the desire to provide those in need with physical evidence of our desire to enfold them with love and prayers for whatever healing they need.

“When the acronym LOL first surfaced in my messages, emails, and Facebook posts, I mistakenly assumed it meant, ‘Lots of Love.’  How could it not? It was written by those whom I love and knew loved me back. Surely my sons, family members and other close friends were just sending notes of affection after writing something to cheer me up and make me laugh! I was quickly disillusioned by said loved ones. It really meant, ‘Laugh Out Loud.’

Anyone who walks by the door of our Providence prayer room on Mondays is most likely to hear many LOL moments. Peals of laughter and snorts of joy explode from our circle of friendship. On Monday nights from 6:00 until 7:30, this group of Jesus-loving, God-fearing warriors sits together to crochet or knit shawls and blankets to give to those who need to feel the wrapped warmth of prayers during difficult times in their lives.  We call our group simply enough, ‘Prayer Shawl.’

Prayer shawls and blankets are created with hooks or needles to pull loops of yarn to create stitches.  These stitches form beautiful patterns which flow into garments of encouragement to the ones wearing them.  Through the many hours of pulling loops, we prayerfully lift up those in need to feel the love of our God and savior Jesus Christ.  In effect we are creating LOL in another important way, “Loops of Love.” Each wrap of the yarn that we make to pull through the loop is a way to show the love of the One who gives us purpose, who stitches us into His sovereign plan for the world.

In John 15:17, Jesus says, “These things I command you, that you may love one another,” and Galatians 6:2 says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  For me there is no better way to answer this call than LOL- sharing lots of love during laughing out loud times as we pull loops of love through the tapestry of God’s time.“
